Bierstacheln

The German tradition of hot beer poking. During limited hours, we will be stoking the flames and poking beer.

Joining us for Weekend One (Nov 28-Nov 30), Nuts 2 Go will be on hand serving up hot nuts for a complete warm-your-belly Christkindlmarket experience.

BEER POKING HOURS

  • All Fridays during the market:
    4-8pm

  • All Saturdays during the market:
    2-8pm

  • All Sundays during the market:
    2-6pm

GLÜHKRIEK

Based on the tradition of Glühwein, we mull our spontaneously-fermented cherry ale with winter spices and serve it warm. This year, we’ll have a limited number of special mugs you can purchase for discounted refills all winter.

FLAMMKUCHEN

Alsace, a region in northeastern France along the German border, blends French and German influences in its beer and food traditions. It’s France’s most famous hop-growing region, home to Strisselspalt—a floral, herbal, and lightly spicy hop we use in our Kölsch-style ale. On November 29 & 30, we’re teaming up with Bad Johnny’s for a Flammkuchen pop-up—crispy Alsatian flatbreads made with dough fermented using Dovetail’s own spontaneously fermented beer.

COBURGER BRATS

Coburger Bratwurst is a Franconian sausage grilled over pinecones. Hagen made us watch a 20 minute documentary in German about it. On Sunday, December 21, Beard & Belly will be by to grill up Coburgers, and Bill went into the forest one weekend to collect pinecones.

OTHER PROGRAMMING

Sunday, November 30
Santa Claus visits!
One of our favorite regulars is a professional Santa Claus. He’ll be by to take pics with the kids from 2-4pm.

Saturday, December 6
Pet Photos with Santa
Join Chicago Canine Rescue at Dovetail from 2-4pm for your pup’s holiday photo, festive treat bags and visits from adoptable puppies.

Saturday, December 13
Krampus & Tuba Force
From 2-4pm, holiday mischief ramps up with a visit by Krampus, while Tuba Force will deck the halls with live holiday music.

Sunday, December 14
Holiday Wreath Making Workshop
Make your own holiday wreath with expert guidance from Vivant Gardening! Includes all the supplies and a beer, natch. Get your tix here.

Saturday, December 20
Holiday Magic with Brielle
From 1-3p, joining us in the taproom is MAGIC BY BRIELLE, bringing “How’d she do that?!” table-side illusions straight to your bar seat. A Chicago-based magician and “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” alum, Brielle is helping revive tavern magic, a close-up style born right here in Chicago, with performances at spots like Beard & Belly and Long Room.

Sunday, December 21
We’ll close out the market by tapping a 200 liter gravity keg of Holiday bock at noon, and holiday music from Ukulele Barrett from 2-4pm.
